I have reviewed quite a few special releases for TWE’s 20th anniversary in recent months and this is another such release. When I saw this one I was instantly intrigued to see how this will compare to our own (Holy Dram’s cask # 68) Inchmoan cask…
This whisky was distilled in April 2007 at Loch Lomond, this Inchmoan single malt has been matured in a single refill hogshead until July 2019, a total of 289 bottles were released.
Inchmoan 12 yo 2007 ,54,9%, for TWE 20th Anniversary 2019,Cask #96 , £74.95
Nose: A nice combination of peat, smoke and some toffee, vanilla and lotus cookies (caramelized), it’s spicy with some pepper, tar and licorice , some coastal notes and even a hint of orchard fruit and lemon zest.
Palate: Quite smoky and ashy from the start, which is nice, the pepper is also here, and the lemon rind and zesty notes are more pronounced, as are salty caramel infused dark chocolate, licorice candy and more tar.
Finish : After Eight chocolate , licorice and spice.
Conclusion: A very nice profile, very different than the cask #68. a lot more coastal and without the tropical fruit. A very good whisky all in all.
Score: 86/100
