How does it go? oh yes: My whisky friend Yoav went to Scotland and all I got was this lousy sample … But really, this is a lovely little sample I got from Yoav who managed to fill a wee bottle (thanks mate!) and spared me a sample, which is very cool. This is a Bourbon cask, distilled 28/06/1996 and bottled 27/10/2013 , at 56% from cask #11030.
Auchentoshan 1996 Bottle your own Cask # 11030 , 56% abv , [sold only on site]
Nose: Thick and condensed. Dark sugar, vanilla, raisins and grape peel. Fragrant oak: almost perfume like. Some exotic fruit compote going on too : papaya and unripe melon.
Palate : Warm wood , sugar and malt. Chocolate filled with rum. Mouth watering. Golden syrup. Spices.
Finish: Sweet fudge. Dried Coconut flakes pepper.
A really nice ‘Toshan, sweet, exotic and rather complex, very nice stuff. What a pity those lovely casks do not get bottled as single casks and sold to the public. I’ll say that again: Auchentoshan can be awesome, just give us more such casks and we’ll be happy.
Score: 89/100
Thanks again Yoav.
