Time for yet another review of this lovely series of NAS bottlings by Master of Malt, under the label of That Boutique-y Whisky Company. This is the first Benrinnes bottled in the series. In addition to top class whisky, this series features lovely whisky labels filled with humour and good artwork : this time the label features Pete McPeat and Jack Washback from the most visited whisky blog whiskyfun.com, having a one-sided conversation about the distillation process at Benrinnes up until 2007/2008. Only 202 bottles of this batch were produced, so be quick if you fancy this one.
Benrinnes – Batch 1 , 50cl, 48.90% , £44
Nose: Very sweet, with lots of sherry but also bourbon influences, with creamy vanilla, crème Brule , ripe oranges, honey and a lot of spice, very very nice. on the 2nd wave of aromas: some wood, and a sort of new leather feeling to it.
Palate: very nice, with a nice mouth feel at this ABV, vanilla, and meaty sherry, and lots of sugars flying around in all directions, some apricot jam. Chewy stuff! , with bits of chilly and over-ripe blood oranges. nice!
Finish: sweet, sherry, pepper, wood, fruit, and some citrus from ripe orange.
I really really like this. another cracking Benrinnes from MOM. I know i am beginning to sound like a promo for MoM, but believe me, i do not get paid by MOM to say it’s good. it’s damn good. fact. what can i say. I call it as i taste it.
If you ask me how this compares to the 14 year old single cask BR i reviewed not long ago from MoM, I think they are not very different, but the 14 year old is a little bit better, but since this is available and the other one all gone, there is no real debate which to get 😉
Score: 89/100
