Speyside Region 1973 {TWA for TWE}

Not a very clear title is it? so a short explanation is due. This lovely whisky
is an old Speyside whisky bottled exclusively for The Whisky Exchange by German independent bottler ‘The Whisky Agency’. This was bottled from a butt of blended malt with components from across the Speyside region, meaning it’s a blended malt of some kind. It also seems it comes from a re-fill Fino sherry cask, which adds a nice touch different from the more common Oloroso casks we usually see . This bottling for TWE is another one in a series of similar casks bottled by TWA from 1973 vintage whiskies, some were single malts, some blended malts, and all highly acclaimed and quite expensive. There were a total of 576 bottles…

Speyside Region 43 yo 1973 , 47.4%, TWA for TWE 2017

Nose: Wax, rich sweet sponge cakes, donuts, Cinnabons, strawberry, kiwi and sour cherries on top of cream cakes, citrus and more tropical delights such as dried mango, papaya.. Laid on top of polished wooden tables, and old wooden benches, bit floral too. Damn classy stuff,superb balance,wow.

Palate: Nice! Starts with sweet marshmallows, then off to more of the sugar drenched sponge cakes, then switching to tropical fruit with bananas, pineapple and apples and pears,maybe papaya as well, nice touches of polished wood, oak and spice.

Finish : Apple pies, burnt toast, soft wood spices, waxy and lovely.

Conclusion: What can i say, this is Fantastic stuff by all standards. The nose is amazingly complex and layered, the palate is fruity, waxy and has got enough wood, and the balance is perfect. Speechless here. Wish It were a bit cheaper so I could afford it, but hey, if you can, do not think twice. BUY!

Score : 94/100
