Another fine example of Wemyss single casks, this time Lowlander Auchentoshan from 1998, total of 294 bottles available at 46% abv (yes yes, i know. we want more). Quite a nice dram actually, from an underrated (some would say, rightfully so) distillery and the second dram from the latest batch of single casks released by Wemyss malts in 2013.![]()
Wemyss malts Candied Fruit–1998 Auchentoshan , 46% abv
Nose: A nice walk down memory lane, old school candy shops like the ones we had when I was a wee kid, with all those Gummy bears and other boiled candy with all sorts of colours and fragrances , some Fragrant oak. Bits of fruity jelly beans. Lemon. Grape peel.
Palate: Old style candy. Sugar icing. Sawdust a little zingy touch of ginger and ginger candy.
Finish: creamy wood. Sawdust. Sweet n’ bitter chocolate.
Solid stuff, and no surprise here. It’s not bad, but not as good as the Chocolate Honeycomb I reviewed a little while ago.
Score: 84/100
