Tasting Master of Malt Speyside 30 year 4th edition

Only a few weeks ago I tasted the 3rd edition and here comes a brand new edition. This one is totally different than the third, with a much more sherry influence (back to the ‘roots’ as the 2nd edition). Let’s give this a try, shall we?master-of-malt-30-year-old-speyside-4th-edition-whisky

Master of Malt 30 Year Old Speyside (4th Edition) , 40% ABV , £99

Nose: A lot of sherry here with soft spice. Cinnamon , honey, pepper. Sultanas and baked apples. Very sweet. With some bouillon notes too.
Palate: Very nice delicate sherry influence. With those dried fruit honey comb, golden syrup and spices sprinkled with almonds  all ending with a lovely chocolate ending.
Finish: honey, dry sherry and dark chocolate.

A very good dram, and you know what’s the only thing that is missing? some more % ABV. I wish this was bottled at 48%, even 46% would do it well, with more mouth feel, and body. The price is very good, but I do think people would be willing to pay let’s say another 15% and get the undiluted liquid. I do prefer this sherried profile to the 3rd edition. (though score is the same, per quality)

Score: 88/100

(would be sure a 90 with more % ABV).

Thanks to the chaps at MoM for the official sample.
