GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch #5

Time flies, and we’ve reached the 5th batch of the very successful product that is the GD Cask Strength. As we’ve seen before there’s indeed quite a bit of variation among batches, each going its own way. I think I tried them all except batch #3.  As always, the new expression has been aged  in a combination of the Spanish …

The new Glendronach Peated – Review

As a big fan of the Glendronach distillery I was quite excited to hear they are releasing a peated whisky edition,  distilled using peated malted barley –  first matured in bourbon casks followed by a second period of maturation in the finest Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. As Glendronach are synonymous with good sherry matured whisky, It is really …

Glendronach 1995 19 Year Old PX Puncheon TWE Exclusive – Review

MaltStock is over, and I am settling down (a separate post about that soon). As always I was very happy to meet so many nice people, share a few drams, and on the way collect a few samples people were kind enough to bestow upon me. Billy from the TWE was kind to share samples of the exclusive bottling for …

Glendronach Cask Strength Batch #4 – Review

After the disappointing (for me, at least) new edition of the ‘Hielan’ 8 year old that lacks enough sherry effect, I decided to try another new expression, the cask strength version of Glendronach, now in its fourth batch. I’ve reviewed batches 1,2 and they were cracking drams, I was hoping #4 would continue the tradition. Will it deliver?

The New Glendronach The ‘Hielan’ (Or Where is my Sherry?)

The great Glendronach core lineup has been expanded recently to include a young sibling by the name if ‘Hielan’. It is only 8 years of age, and as opposed to most GD offerings, is a combination of both Ex-bourbon and Ex-Sherry casks (I suspect more ex-Bourbon is used).  if we’re talking younger GDs there is also the Octarine which is …

Glendronach 1994 Cask #3400 – Abbey Whisky – Review

Another big sherry whisky today after yesterday’s Glenlivet, and this time from Glendronach and Abbey Whisky.
Abbey whisky does bottle some cracking stuff, and the last time I tasted a Glenronach they chose to bottle , the GlenDronach 1993 cask #33, It was good stuff (notes here). Apparently it was a big success and they were searciing to bottle a new …

Blind Tasting Competition 2014 – Days 13-14

Day 13 was day I will remember, since I guessed the distillery (Glendronach). one of my favourite distilleries, and the nose and palate screamed BIG SHERRTY DRONACH. I was a bit silly to not have opted for a high abv cask and guessed it was younger, so I did not get the entire score. Not sure why It did not …

The new GlenDronach 12 Sauternes finish – Review

This is a brand new GD expression which replaces the 14 year old sauternes finish, which now has been discontinued. It’s bottled at 46% as most entry level GD , NCF,  matured in European oak (read: sherry) casks, and then finished in a small batch of Sauternes wine casks (Sauternes being a sweet desert wine, in case you’re not familiar …

Glendronach 18 yo Tawny Port finish

The very first post for the Jewish new year! Not that I really use the jewish calendar that much, but it’s holiday time and a good opportunity to post something for the new year. This is quite new, and was released last August, which makes its a month or so old on the shelves.. The 18 year old replaces the …
