Kilchoman 2010 single cask TWE exclusive cask 679

for those who enjoy peated whiskies, TWE included two peated malts in their latest line of Exclusive single cask bottlings, the first is this 4-year-old Kilchoman, and the other is English whisky peated. I’ve long been a Kilchoman fan (though I am not doing a lot of peat these days – this might change as temperatures are dropping even here) …

BenRiach 1998 17 Year Old PX Finish TWE Exclusive (Cask 7758)

After the lovely Glendronach exclusive I’ve reviewed yesterday, comes the bottle from the “sister” distillery of BenRiach (they we released together), this one is 17 years old, a Tripe distilled whisky  and was only finished in PX, rather than aged in it for the entire length of maturation. Actually I’ve bought a bottle if this one (even before I tasted …

The new GlenDronach 12 Sauternes finish – Review

This is a brand new GD expression which replaces the 14 year old sauternes finish, which now has been discontinued. It’s bottled at 46% as most entry level GD , NCF,  matured in European oak (read: sherry) casks, and then finished in a small batch of Sauternes wine casks (Sauternes being a sweet desert wine, in case you’re not familiar …

Glen Moray Port Finish (NAS)

After the lovely Chardonnay cask Glen Moray 10 (brilliant stuff for the price!) , I really wanted to try this one which is rather new. Basically it’s the Classic GM finished in port casks for an additional 8 months (Tawny Port casks to be exact),bottled at 40% and without colouring which is nice given the lovely copper colour of this …

A tale of two Australian Larks

I’m back from Maltstock. It was amazing as usual, but until i settle down again after a few days of boozing and having fun with friends, here are a couple of drams i’ve tried before i flew. more on Maltstock, later this week (or the next ).
Lark distillery is perhaps the the best known Tasmanian distillery, created by Bill Lark …

Springbank Calvados wood 12 yo

I’m always up to trying new expressions from Springbank, those are rarely below the very good mark. They have been toying with quite some wood finishes over there : Barolo, Shiraz, Marsala, and more, but Calvados is a finish I’ve almost never tried, not in SB’s and not elsewhere, and it was really interesting to see what this one might …

Bourbon time : Tasting Angel’s Envy

It’s about time I posted my notes on this one, as I’ve been meaning to for a long time. A bourbon. yes, but not any bourbon, but a very special one : finished in Port casks after being aged in fresh oak casks, as bourbons should.
Basically this is one is born out of love and passion , Lincoln Henderson’s, love …

Tasting The BenRiach 17 yo Rioja Finish

Continuing our Benriach sessions, with another finish, this time an older 17 year old Rioja wine finish. For those of you who are not familiar with the wine world, Rioja denotes a wine region in Spain. Rioja wines are made from vines growing in the La Rioja region, as well as some part of Navarra, and the Basque province of …

Tasting Six Isles Pomerol finish

It’s blend time again. This time a finished blends which i find very interesting. Originally Six Isles is a blended scotch from Ian McLeod distillers consisting of  whiskies from each of Scotland’s whisky producing islands of Islay, Jura, Skye, Mull, Orkney and Arran. This wee dram was further matured (finished) in Pomerol casks (from the Pomerol wine Appellation)

Six Isles …

GlenDronach Time : Session #5–Tasting the 20 yo ‘Tawny Port’ Finish

Well, it’s nearly the end of the GlenDronach time period at Whisky Israel, and to sum up the finishes section I’ve saved the best for last (finish wise). I bring you the 20 year old Tawny Port finish, of a 20 year old GD whisky. After a good Sauternes, and even better Moscatel, it was hard to top those two, …
