Lagavulin 12 yo – Special Release 2015

There are usually a couple of affordable whiskies in the yearly Special release by Diageo, and the Lagavulin is a dram you can always trust to be very good to excellent (At least in recent years). The Other is the Caol Ila, both can be had for under 80 quid which is not a bad price for Cask strength OB …

And today : Whiskey – Redbreast 12 cask strength

It’s September and it’s still pretty hectic around here. Today was dusty (Mars like), and hot and humid as you can imagine in HELL. I was thinking about which whisky I should have and after a beer, or so decided to review the Redbreast 12 CS. This bottle has been sitting around for a few months, having opened it for …

Glendronach Cask Strength Batch #4 – Review

After the disappointing (for me, at least) new edition of the ‘Hielan’ 8 year old that lacks enough sherry effect, I decided to try another new expression, the cask strength version of Glendronach, now in its fourth batch. I’ve reviewed batches 1,2 and they were cracking drams, I was hoping #4 would continue the tradition. Will it deliver?

We’re back!
Passover is over (Thank goodness), and the malt can flow again. I’ve chosen to get into posting tasting notes mood with the latest offering from indie bottler Wemyss Malts. Their latest batch of single casks features the following casks:

“The Rockpool” 1995 single cask from Bowmore Distilery, Islay, Cask Strength
“Foraged Fruit Fool” 1991 single cask from Blair Athol Distillery, Highlands
“Toffee …

New From Tomatin : Cask Strength Release – Review

This week is going to feature quite a few newly released NAS whiskies. But I am happy to say the NAS I am reviewing are really nice ones, well priced (you know, relatively) and are of very good quality, so not many rants on my side. When the whisky is good and not over the top, no need for further …

The Arran Machrie Moor Cask Strength

It’s the Fifth edition of the Peated Machrie Moor by Arran, and this time they have gone one step beyond, and released two versions a regular 46% ABV and a CS one, which I am trying today. I have not tried any of the MM releases since the first (reviewed on the blog here), but I remember feeling it was …

Kilchoman 5 Year Old 2009 Original Cask Strength – Review

Another new expression released recently from the farm distillery of Kilchoman, this time no cask finishes or wine casks at all, ex-bourbon only. This batch is bottled from a vatting of 35 such casks filled in 2009 and bottled in 2014 making the liquid 5 years old. 9,200 bottles of the nectar were made, and bottled an the natural CS …

Elijah Craig 12 Year Old Barrel Proof

If you’re a Bourbon or whiskey fan, you’ve probably tried the 12 year old Elijah Craig, whic is brilliant and very well priced IMHO. This version however is a bit different – a limited release Small Batch, twelve year old bottled at Barrel Proof and without chill filtering, preserving the natural flavours produced during the aging process.  It’s just like …

FEW Bourbon Cask Strength

This whisky was part of Sjoerd’s American Whiskey bottle share, and It is the first time EVER i’ve tried any of the FEW spirits. I heard good things about this one, so I was really looking forward to it. Not much info about this one except that the mashbill is predominantly made up of corn as well as rye and …

Bowmore Tempest 10 yo Batch #5

Bowmore Tempest has been one of my go-to Bowmores in recent years, with a few bottles polished off from older batches (1,2). I can say I’ve tried all batches until now, (with batch 1,3 as my favourites). A few months ago I compared Batches 3&4 head to head, and found batch 3 Brilliant (have a look here). So as you …
