Two OB new Single Grains–Port Dundas 12 & 18 -Review

The single grain sector is indeed gaining popularity, and although I did not plan it, this is becoming a grain centric week here on the blog. Recently Diageo has launched a new line of single grain whisky from the now closed distillery of Port Dundas.  Based in Glasgow, the historic distillery closed in 2010 as Diageo moved the majority of …

SMWS 127.40[Port Charlotte] – Mango chicken vindaloo

This is not a new SMWS edition, it’s from the Feb batch or so. I am quite a fan of Port Charlotte, when it comes to peaty whiskies. It’s not a secret I drink less and less heavily peated drams on a daily basis, I guess a palate or mood change, but sometimes when the weather is right, or when …

The new Port Charlotte PC 12 (Travel Retail) – Review

I can’t believe Port Charlotte 12 is out, It seems like yesterday when the baby PC5 came out, and it was HUGE. This toddler is now a teenager, and I am loving the way it developed over the years. This is the oldest PC EVER (there are a few Indie PC of the same age).
Yesterday’s Octomore TR edition (7.2) proved …

Michel Couvreur was a Belgian independent bottler (passed away in 2013) of single malt scotch (his actual company is located in France – Burgundy)  His cellars are located in Bouze-les-Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. Millstone 12 Year Old Sherry Cask Matured

The winter is here finally (even in Israel), and we’ve had some lower temperatures the last few days (under 10C is considered chilly in these parts of the world). that’s the time you bring out the sherry, and heavy peat, right? Right. I sampled a few interesting Millstones last year, and this was one of them (a peated version and …

The new GlenDronach 12 Sauternes finish – Review

This is a brand new GD expression which replaces the 14 year old sauternes finish, which now has been discontinued. It’s bottled at 46% as most entry level GD , NCF,  matured in European oak (read: sherry) casks, and then finished in a small batch of Sauternes wine casks (Sauternes being a sweet desert wine, in case you’re not familiar …

Bruichladdich 12 yo First Fill Sherry cask (The Maltman)

This very interesting Laddie was distilled Sept. 2001 and bottled January 2014. A total of 492 bottles were filled from cask #326 (Oloroso). A first fill laddie is something I do not think I sampled recently, and It was my first Laddie from this bottler (The Maltman), so I really did not know what to expect (other than BIG sherry).

Port Charlotte 12 year old–The Maltman

Been a while since I tasted a new cask from the Maltman, and every time it’s fun with this cool little IB. Port Charlotte, I love Port Charlotte, and this is the oldest PC I’ve tasted to date, it’s the oldest around I think. PC11 OB was brilliant, so how is one more year and a different cask will affect …
