Glenlivet 11 Year Old 2007 Single Cask #900134 [TWB Exclusive]

I’ve been meaning to write about this one for quite some time now, but somehow it was left out. This is another single cask Big Bad Sherry casks , quite young, but powerful. If you remember the other cask bottled for TWB from the same distillery an bottler I reviewed back then (cask #900552). That one was lovely indeed, and I expect this one to be just as good.

The details:

66.8% ABV. Matured in a 1st fill sherry hogshead #900134 this is a full power single cask Glenlivet.  Distilled 27th March 2007 and bottled 6th June 2018, just 315 bottles of this lovely deep sherry color scotch from a single 1st fill sherry hogshead were bottled, and seem to be sold out… (well, released in June).

Glenlivet 11 year old, 2007, Signatory Exclusive, 66.8% #900134

Nose:  A true sherry bomb of a nose : Xmas Cake, pepper, chili, dark chocolate. mocha , some big sherry notes, sultanas galore, plum and fig in sweet syrup, more spices and sweet deep caramel candy. Wow. give it some time to rest in the glass, and some sour notes develop as well. a drop of water might be a smart move here.
Palate:  Much fiercer than the nose, if that’s possible! Cherries in sweet nectar, sultanas, chocolate , ripe oranges, cinnamon gum, chilly pepper, fresh ground pepper as well, wood and more chocolate with chili pepper.
Finish: more interplay between the sweet and sour / savory, chocolate, fruit, and even a hint of tobacco leaf.

Bottom line:

Another fine example of a young feisty sherried Glenlivet , so different from the OB Glenlivets most people know and drink. Thank goodness for Independent Bottlings and for such exquisite young casks. Lovely stuff, and now that winter is here, it’s a perfect winter-warmer.
