#12blends–Day 7 – Smokin’ Blended Scotch Whisky

Day 7 was Dramstat’s (Danny Williamson’s) turn to post the whisky he had chosen an interesting and obscure new blended whisky from Duncan Taylor called: Smokin’, The Gentleman’s Dram. Of course, I’ve remotely heard about this one when it was released only a while ago, but never had a sip until day 7. Initially I didn’t pick up the smoke …

Tasting Cardhu octave Duncan Taylor 1984 27 yo

My first Cardhu review on the blog I think, and it’s about time. Cardhu does not release a lot of single malt expressions, and it is mostly remembered for the infamous “pure malt” incident in which Cardhu due to shortage of stocks bottled a pure malt (mixed with other Speyside malts) under the same brand and label, which vexed whisky …

Tasting Duncan Taylor Brora 1981 – 23yo cask 1425

Brora Brora. With today’s prices, it’s hard to afford old Broras, and the last Diageo Special releases 35 year old went up to £400. I was lucky enough to be able to taste this wonderful dram courtesy of my good whisky friend Phil. he sent over a sample my way, but It was with him one night, that I was …

Tasting Bunnahabhain 23 Year Old 1988 – Dimensions (Duncan Taylor)

After the first member of the “dimensions” line , that excellent Aberlour ex-Bourbon cask, i had high hopes for this expression from the same series. This time We’re talking 23 year old, Bunnahabhain which rested in cask 2358  until being bottled in 2011, Cask strength,  and limited to 225 bottles all in all.

First dram of 2012 : Duncan Taylor ‘Dimensions‘ Aberlour 1993

I am not too fond of yearly summaries and selecting best whiskies etc, so I have refrained from doing that and now that we’re officially in 2012, it’s time for the first dram of the new year. I’ve selected a recent bottling (though 2011, I fear no 2012 bottling exist to date, early in the second day of the year) …

Taking the bull by both horns – Tasting Black Bull 40 year old

Older blends can be wonderful at times, and having said that, and tasted the Black Bull 12, I was very keen on trying the Black Bull 40 year old Batch #2 (which is the latest).  Black Bull 40 year old is made of 90% single malt and 10% single grain and is bottled at cask strength (at this older age …
