Bunnahabhain 25 yo (OB) – Review

Time for another official bottling you can easily get (easily, that is if you can afford it, right?) in most whisky shops – The Bunnahabhain 25 year old.  As you well know most Bunnas are not as peaty as other Islay malts (some younger 1990’s are indeed very peaty), and that’s very right about this one. Bottled at 46.3% abv, …

SMWS 10.77 ‘Beware of the monster’ , Bunnahabhain 2007

Young whisky can be awesome, and there is nothing to be ashamed of when bottling young cracking drams. This young Bunna is a great example of such a whisky. Distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2014.  But this youngster does not feel as young, and I really was surprised at how good it was.  So let’s end this week’s reviews …

Malts of Scotland Bunnahabhain 1973

This baby has been sitting here for quite some time waiting patiently since Jan 2014 , due to a very long queue, and other reasons i have no idea what they are… Back then my good mate Sjoerd who’s known for his bottle shared, arranged a share of Malts of Scotland  and I immediately wanted a share. Better late then …

A killer Bunny : Bunnahabhain Dràm An Stiùreadair – Feis Ile 2014

Coming to the last bottling from this year’s Feis Ile festival 2014, Bunnahabhain have released two different Festival expressions : Westering Home, a 17 year old selling for a whopping £250, and the  second is called  ‘Dràm an Stiùreadair’ (pronounced Draam an Yoù-radar – meaning The Helmsman’s Dram in Gaelic), that was cheaper and more approachable at £95. Not often …

A quick peaty delight : Wemyss Malts ‘The Bosun’s Dram’ 1997 single cask from Bunnahabhain

Nothing like a good peated 1997 Bunny to get you going and please the peat buds. 1997 Bunnahabhains are quite common among Indie bottlers, this was the year Bunnahabhain started producing heavily peated malt too, and i guess many casks were sold to IB’s I’ve reviewed quite a bit of 1997 Bunnies, and they are usually very nice, this one …

Kintra Bunnahabhain 23 yo cask 5741

A few weeks ago I reviewed the Dailuaine 21 year old , and it set quite high expectations, a Bunna aged 23 years old, usually means fun. And this one is indeed a lovely drop of drammage. Bottled at 46,1% abv, it’s not the highest abv monster around (I wonder if this is watered down or just a really funky …

Wemyss Malts “Seaweed on the rocks” Bunnahabhain 1991

Last month Wemyss malts announced an epic release of 12 single casks in one go. I managed to get hold of 6 of those, and will be reviewing them on the blog in the coming weeks. The first I chose to review was this Buna 1991. I was in the mood for a mild Islay and what better specimen than …

Some fun with Douglas Laing & co.

The nice guys over at D.Laing sent over a few samples of their peaty whiskies among them a Caol Ila, Laphroaig, and Bunnahabhain. What can be nicer for a peat-head like myself than to try those lovely ones in one session. Summer or winter (as long as you keep your house cool enough) it’s always a grand time for some …

The Whisky Barrel Bunnahabhain 23 – 1989

I will be visiting some of the latest whiskies bottled exclusively for TWB in the coming weeks (there are 6 such ‘Burns malt’), but I chose to start with this little Bunny 23 year old, 1989 vintage bottled last March (2013). Bunnahabhain is really not the most well known of Islay distilleries, and really lies in the shadows of more …

Wemyss Malts Chocolate honeycomb–Bunnahabhain 2001

This is the first of the new batch just released by Wemyss I am about to review, as i was feeling like and Islay, then I realised this one is not going to give me a peat boost, but the colour was very enticing, and Bunna’s are lovely as well, so here it is. Vintage 2001 making it 13 years …
