Elements of Islay BW5–Bowmore [1996] – review & notes

Another superb bottle I got to taste this week with friends (thanks Assaf!). This one is a vatting (mixing) of 1995 and 1996 casks, making it a 1996 vintage (we always take the youngest malt in the vatting), and the 5th such bottling from Bowmore in the Elements of Islay series (A good series of Islay bottling by The whisky …

Bowmore Feis Ile 2015–Virgin Oak , NAS – Review

It’s time to start sampling some of the bottling from this year’s Feis Ile (Islay Festival), beginning with this lovely Bowmore. Bowmore did two different  bottles for this year’s Festival : The very expensive 26 year old 1988 vintage (at a whopping 350 quid – way out of my budget), and the NAS Virgin oak (at 55 quid). Luckily I …

Speaking of the devil–Bowmore Devil’s Cask Batch 2 – Review

There are a few whiskies that attract a lot of attention every once in a while, and for some reason (well, for obvious reasons) Bowmore’’ Devil’s cask is one of them. It all started last year when the first edition came out, and sold out faster than lightning, then the price shot up in the secondary market (read: auction sites), …

Tasting Bowmore Feis Ile 2014

This year Bowmore have released two expressions for sale on Feis Ile. The first is a 1989 vintage, and was very expensive (350 quid), while the second one (the one we’re about to review here) is younger, and bottled at Cask strength from ex-bourbon barrels. I was quite keen on trying it, being a fan of the Bowmore Tempests (batch …

The Bowmore Travel Retail Range : Part III – Gold Reef

We’ve reached the third and final tasting note for the latest Bowmore Travel Retail range. After the lovely Black Rock and great White Sands 17 yo comes the third expression in the series : the Gold Reef. Bottled without age statement, and like the White Sands, it’s aged in mostly ex-Bourbon casks (while the 17 yo is aged in 100% …

The Bowmore Travel Retail Range : Part II –‘White Sands’ 17 yo

After the lovely NAS Black sands with all that sherry influence, comes an age statement expression intended for travel retail, not something you see every day in the TR market.  This Bowmore was aged in 100% ex-bourbon casks, bottled at 43% (a bit higher would have been nicer). It comes in standard 700 ml bottles, and not in the 1 …

Bowmore 23 year old Port matured (2013 release)

This Bowmore has been released a few months ago (august or so) and has spent its life inside port casks for the entire 23 years.I love me some port casks, but Sometimes I have difficulties with the bowmores of the late 80’s as they are too much perfumed for my taste (you can call it Parma Violets etc). I was …

Tasting wine finished drams part III : Bowmore Bordeaux finish

The last post this week in the Wine finishes series deals with a Bowmore. Yes, I’ve not really been a fan od Bowmore . So i liked the ‘Tempest’ 10 year old, but most of their OB line-up is not really exciting. But this finish did interest me and i decided to give it a try, see what’s it all …
