SMWS Feis Ile 2015 edition – 3.243 – "Dark, smouldering flamenco gypsy [Bowmore 17 yo]

After yesterday’s Ardbeg , It’s time for a cracking dram from the SMWS. at a much nicer price (If you are a member and was lucky enough to buy one in time).  They have decided to bottle a really nice edition for this year’s Feis, a 17 years old cask , distilled 25th September 1997 at 57.1% abv, refill ex-sherry …

Bowmore Feis Ile 2015–Virgin Oak , NAS – Review

It’s time to start sampling some of the bottling from this year’s Feis Ile (Islay Festival), beginning with this lovely Bowmore. Bowmore did two different  bottles for this year’s Festival : The very expensive 26 year old 1988 vintage (at a whopping 350 quid – way out of my budget), and the NAS Virgin oak (at 55 quid). Luckily I …

The Rockpool 1995 – Wemyss Malts (Bowmore) – Review

We’re back!
Passover is over (Thank goodness), and the malt can flow again. I’ve chosen to get into posting tasting notes mood with the latest offering from indie bottler Wemyss Malts. Their latest batch of single casks features the following casks:

“The Rockpool” 1995 single cask from Bowmore Distilery, Islay, Cask Strength
“Foraged Fruit Fool” 1991 single cask from Blair Athol Distillery, Highlands
“Toffee …

Bowmore Tempest 10 yo Batch #5

Bowmore Tempest has been one of my go-to Bowmores in recent years, with a few bottles polished off from older batches (1,2). I can say I’ve tried all batches until now, (with batch 1,3 as my favourites). A few months ago I compared Batches 3&4 head to head, and found batch 3 Brilliant (have a look here). So as you …

The Bowmore Travel Retail Range : Part II –‘White Sands’ 17 yo

After the lovely NAS Black sands with all that sherry influence, comes an age statement expression intended for travel retail, not something you see every day in the TR market.  This Bowmore was aged in 100% ex-bourbon casks, bottled at 43% (a bit higher would have been nicer). It comes in standard 700 ml bottles, and not in the 1 …

The Bowmore Travel Retail Range : Part I – ‘Black Rock’ NAS

Time to take a look at Bowmore’s offering for the travel retail market (duty free), after Bowmore changed the entire line-up of offerings a few months ago. Currently the TR range consists of 3 whiskies : Black Rock (which I will review shortly), Gold Reef , and White sands 17 yo. While the first two are NAS (as many of …

Peat Smoked Herring 2001 – Wemyss Malts (Bowmore) in preparation for #WemyssTT3

It’s Thursday and tonight we’re having another twitter tasting of Wemyss malts (the new Lord Elcho,Peat chimney 8 yo and two single casks). To get into the mood I’ve tasted a few of the recent releases of single casks by Wemyss, starting with this young Bowmore.  There are only 405 bottles bottled at 46% abv (yes, i know).
Peat Smoked Herring …

Bowmore hand filled 1997-2013 55.5% abv

I’m a sucker for hand filled bottles you can get only at the distillery, and most chances that you’re too if you’re reading this blog 😉 I was fortunate enough to get a wee sample when I traded samples over at Maltstock with the Spellers (Ansgar & Thomas). I had a feeling it was about to be a cracking dram …

Bowmore Laimrig 15 yo

Been trying to source a sample of this for a long time, and thanks to my whisky friend E.S who was kind enough to mail me one (and so quick)  – mission was accomplished. For those of you who have not heard about this ‘limited edition’:
Laimrig is Scottish Gaelic for ‘pier’, and is named after Bowmore’s ancient stone pier. It’s …

Bowmore Tempest Batches #3 & #4 head to head

Something good is going on at Bowmore, after a few years of releasing OK products, but nothing spectacular (not taking into consideration the very expensive older releases), recently (and i suspect much thanks to the work done by Rachel Barrie) they have been hard at work releasing good stuff (100 proof, Darkest 15 yo, etc) and of course the Bowmore …
