Big Bang #2 : Ardbeg Supernova 2010 is coming !!!

Ardbeg-Supernova-2010

So, you’ve probably heard about it. Every whisky blog is going to write about it, so why not us? 😉 Very exciting news indeed. Ardbeg is going to roll out the 2010 version of it’s Mega/Super/Ultra/Omni/Wow most peated expression, the Supernova.

The Good news, are that i really liked the old Supernova It was way better than just a peat monster. i want that bottle badly on my bar.

The Bad news: The Ardbeg site is going to crash again on May 31st, when the Supernova is officially available through the shop.

The Ardbeg marketing are geniuses, they know how to create a buzz (see the RC launch a few months ago). A new Ardbeg expression receives attention like no other distillery does. If Laphraoig / Lagavulin sends an email about a new dram, will someone get excited? No sir! But, let Ardbeg send one wee email to it’s committee members, and hell breaks loose. Every blog is going to cite that press release, and we’re already salivating on the new expression, waiting for May 31st to click on the “BUY” button in a second.

Kudus to the Ardbeg marketing guys. you have me. i admit it. i am addicted, and i will do whatever i can to put my dirty hands on that ‘Nova 😉

Now, until May 31st comes a bit more about the Ardbeg Supernova 2010 from the Ardbeg site (tasting note):

sn-210-prelaunch

Colour

Deep gold

Aroma

Big and powerful with peaty, earthy and deep herbal notes.

With the first sniff, encounter deep earthy peat oils and crushed black pepper embedded in the darkest chocolate. Swirl the glass and dip your nose into herbal infusions of juniper, elderflower and agave. Tarry ropes and creosote-soaked elm follow with flowering currants, olives and hot chilli peppers.

Swirl water into the glass, and voyage into the unknown with smoky coal tar, an open box of rolling tobacco, peat moss and roasted malt. A barbeque of smoky charcoal rises above the peat moss, softened by camomile, cedar and heather bloom. A blast of brine, white pepper and smoky asparagus escapes into the atmosphere with a spritely display of gooseberries and greengages.

Taste

Ardbeg challenges the palate with a smoke and salt explosion – hot, sizzling and gristy sensations effervesce and explode on the tongue with a powerful peaty punch. Black and white crushed pepper pop with chilli and chocolate. Chewy sweet rolling tobacco, linseed oil and newly tanned leather roll backwards on a wave of brininess and burst of juicy lime marmalade. Cigar smoke builds up to a crescendo before drying out to bring dark roast earthy coffee, toasted almonds and liquorice root.

Finish

Long, deep and powerful, refusing to fade away – remaining warm and drying with tarry peat, cocoa and chilli.

Now, tell me the truth. Aren’t you dying to get your hands on a coupld of bottels? be fair. 😉

bets, anyone? will the ardbeg site crash again?

Slainte!
