Dumbarton 31 Year Old 1987 Sovereign TWB Exclusive cask #15477

Time for another single grain, this time a Dumbarton bottled by H.Laing in their Sovereign series for TWB. A single grain at 31 years of age, sounds about right…

Distilled in March 1987 and matured in a single refill hoghsead #15477. Just 207 bottles yielded from the cask at a nice ABV of 50.5%.

Dumbarton 31 Year Old 1987 Sovereign Exclusive #15477 , £120

Nose: fresh fruit, wood varnish, a bit of glue, and vanilla fudge, caramel candy, pencil box, red apple and berries. Rich and warming quite nice.
Palate: rich and thick, with golden syrup, more salty caramel, fudge and nice wood spices. Sweet and spicy, almonds and maybe some marzipan as well, hunt if coconut shreds.
Finish: mocha, caramel candy, wood and icing sugar.

Conclusion: Quite a nice sweet , fruity and indulging kind of grain whisky, with nice touches of wood and spice, although i would have liked to see a bit more wood in a 30+ year old (a personal preference), which would have made it come closer to the 90 mark.

Score: 86/100

Available on the TWB site for £120.
