Wemyss Malts – Nectar Grove Blended Malt (finished in Madeira Casks)

Quite a long time since my last Wemyss Malts review, and this one’s a bit special, since it’s the first time Wemyss Malts use a cask finish for one of their blended malts range. The Nectar grove is a blend of Highland scotch whiskies, finished in a Madeira cask..

In keeping with other releases from Wemyss Malts, such as The Hive, Spice King and Peat Chimney; this new whisky has been given a flavor led name by the Wemyss tasting panel which
reflects its succulent and luscious fruit character. In Wemyss’ first foray into finishing, the Highland blended malt has been imbued with the fruity and complex sweet flavors of Madeira wine and reminiscent of a ripe fruit grove of peaches, nectarines and citrus. The finish is of gentle oak spice, sweet pastries and juicy stone fruits. This fruity and fragrant malt whisky is ideally suited for enjoying during warm summertime’s and can be used to make a refreshing whisky cobbler cocktail. Nectar Grove is bottled at its natural color which has a beautiful peachy golden hue and at
46% non-chill filtered to retain the intensity of flavors and aromas in this whisky

Let’s get going with the tasting notes, shall we?

Wemyss Malts Nectar Grove, 46% abv, £43

Nose: sweet and fruity like the name suggests, mostly on apricot, white wine and a malty cereal note as well. Fresh, and vibrant with a pinch of white pepper.
Palate : spicy entry with more white pepper, then the fruity backbone begins to unfold, some nuts and almonds maybe, then more peach, nectarines and a touch of ripe orange zest, with some sweet pinkish rose wine.
Finish: oak, pepper and peach cobbler.

Conclusion:

This is a fairly yummy blended malt, with a nice sweetness and fruit added by the Madeira Finish… Not a bad idea… Nothing spectacular, but lovely daily sipping stuff at this price.

Score: 85/100
