Exile casks Take II – ‘The Wanderer’

The first ‘exile cask’ edition (Trojan, reviewed here a few months ago ) was very good, and sold out quite fast, this one seems to be just as good (and selling out very fast as well). Neil & Joel the bottlers do not reveal much , expect that it was distilled in 1992 at a Speyside distillery, and bottled 2016 , making it a 24 year old, the cask has traveled  around spent time in quite a few warehouses as it traveled and was even exchanged for another cask, until they came across it somewhere, and decided to ‘liberate’ it and bottle it as a single cask. Nice story, and now, let’s dive in;

The Exile Casks ‘The Wanderer’ 24 yo 1992,54,6%, cask #1602 , ~£75Exile2

Nose : Interesting stuff from first sniff: lovely wood notes with varnish up front,  a bit of glue/ nail remover but in a nice sort of way,  spice,  and a fruity touch  (leaning towards the Exotic : kiwi, , papaya, and maybe a hint of tinned pineapple  ) as well citrus and sweet vanilla and lotus biscuits. More spiced wood. Lovely ex bourbon cask.

Palate : Good balance of wood and fruit with exotics ( red grapefruit,  kiwi ) as well as peach and citrus fruit,  then some more of the sandalwood and wood varnish with candied ginger.
Finish : Ripe orange, fruit and wood.
A nice balance of exotic fruit / orchard fruit and wood with a sweet vanilla edge.  I am not even going to guess the distillery here… but it’s a nice single cask. Too bad it sold too quickly. Good work finding this baby, guys.

Score: 89/100
