Glengoyne 14, 2000 [Malts of Scotland] cask #15012

My mate Niko who’s a big GG fan is getting married tomorrow (congrats dude). He chose to marry in Prague (not a bad choice at all), and after seeing some of his photos from the Whiskeria bar (you lucky bastard!), I remembered He brought this bottle over to one of our tastings not long ago, and that I quite liked it, but forgot to post notes. This is a nice IB by MOS of a 14 year old GG sherry cask I remember liking quite a bit back then. So, this one is for you Niko, enjoy your last day on earth as a free man Winking smile !!

Glengoyne 14, distilled 2000 , 52.9% , Malts of Scotland sherry cask #15012 , €79GG_2015

Nose: This throws me back quite a bit into my childhood (ok, I am not that old..) with those candied apples on a stick, you can buy at fairs and many other old school candy, there’s cherries as well, and lots of candied oranges too, as well as sweet plum juice, and maybe a hint of date honey (Silan). Sweet, candied, and delicious.

Palate: Big oily notes, with semi sweet flavors (not as luscious as the nose ) as well as crushed coffee beans, dark chocolate, nutmeg. Some prunes and semi sweet cherries, as well as Demerara sugar, and oak.

Finish: Cocoa powder, dark chocolate, ripe orange peel, and cardamom.

The nose is amazing, while the palate is lovely too. the old school candy, and sherry influence did work well for me. It’s not the most complex of drams, but it’s ideal for a cold winter night.

Score: 86/100
