Glen Grant 1950-2015, 65yo G&M for Wealth Solutions

Time to end this year with some really special drams, the first of which is a quite unique in a few respects : First of all it was distilled in 1950, yes nineteen fifty, yes 25 years before I was even born which is cool, very cool. What also makes it cool is the ABV it is bottled. At first I was quite sure it was a typo, but i checked and re-checked , and it seems to be correct: this whisky aged for 65 years, has been bottled at  59.3% !!! That is mind boggling. This wee dram has lost less than 5% of it’s ABV over 65 bloody years. Is that possible? in Scotland? seems so.

This baby was bottled by Wealth Solutions (Thanks guys, again for sending me awesome rare and magnificent drams), a Polish company who bottles rare, expensive and awesome whiskies, Cognacs, etc. They really select the best of the best and sell the bottles to rich people who do not bother to ask about the price, and they are doing a good job in selecting them.

So, how does this one taste? (compared to the 66 yo of last year?) – It’s pretty awesome, as you might Expect. A worthy dram to close 2015. no doubt!

Glen Grant 65 years old, 14 October 1950 to 2015, Sherry butt, 59.3%, Gordon & MacPhail for Wealth Solutions

Nose : this is a very delicate and fresh nose for such an old dram. Not heaps of wood but a very gentle and enticing vanilla cream on top of nice exotic fruit and pine. Sweet mint tea and a touch of wood lacquer. Classy

Palate : a nice feel on the palate. Much more powerful than the nose. Starting on pepper and mescal, old wood and now fruit with a nutty edge, and lychee, and strawberry infused Malabi. Rose water. Really exotic stuff.

Finish:  A nice finish as expected with the wood spices, and wood is prominent, yet not overpowering, the fruity, sweet notes are there too. Age does become it…

What a way to finish 2015! Let’s hope 2016 will be just as good!
