A rocking chair dram – SMWS 9.80 [Glen Grant] 20 yo Sauternes Cask

Time for a few SMWS bottlings I tasted recently from the last year or so, and the first one is a delicious ultra sweet whisky from a refill Sauternes cask.  Distilled on the 16th November 1992, and bottled at 49.5%.

Glen Grant 1992 SMWS 9.80 , 49.5 % , 20 years old 9.80smws

Nose: That’s a nice one indeed. Like eating sweets in a pine needle wood, lots of pine, as well as old school boiled sweets, waxy wood, with nice older dusty shelves, as well as icing sugar, sweet juicy fruit and barley sugars, some ripe apples in sweet nectar. Very very nice stuff, on the sweet, spicy side.

Palate: Sweet, creamy and lots of red tofeed apples, in sweet honey syrup, quite a but of wood, with the nice varnish touch, which I absolutely adore. there’s something fruity and exotic about the palate, maybe a touch of honey dew melons, and some more pencil shavings sort of wood, with the icing sugar shining through.

Finish: Sweet, milk chocolate, spice, wood, and the honeydew melon, with the sweets. long, sweet, and mega fun.

Lovely sweet stuff for the lovers of sweet whiskies. I love it, it is indeed a dram to enjoy after a good meal, on a rocking chair, or sofa. very very festive, and befitting this time of year. Good stuff. Older Glen Grans are awesome, and this Sauternes is no different.

Score: 90/100
