Wemyss Malts Linkwood 1996 ‘Honeysuckle Bower’

A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the lovely Caribbean Crème (Invergordon 1988) single grain from the same batch of single cask released by Wemyss last month. This is a single cask Linkwood distilled in 1996 and from its name you can guess it’s going to be quite floral. I am not a BIG fan of floral whiskies, but On occasion I like a floral dram, when I’m in the mood.

Nose: Vanilla and a lot of flower petals in here. That’s for sure. Violets are the first that come to mind. Some chamomile. Honeysuckle and coconut in addition to some sandalwood.

Palate: Much more peppery but sweet and juicy too: vanilla. Golden syrup. Apple and pear. Some sweet wood and a touch date paste.

Finish: Sweet and peppery with. Vanilla. Honeysuckle and sandalwood, Medium length.

A nice whisky no doubt. Add a few points to my score if you like the floral profile, I am still not a big an of the style, though. It’s balanced and rather light, would be a nice summer sipper I am sure, and summer is almost upon us here… A good price no doubt, so grab one if you’re into this sort of profile.

Score: 83/100
