Robert Ransom has been working in the whisky business in the last 10 or so years, and after some time at the Glenfarclas distillery (as Director of Sales and Marketing) he decided to go independent and create a new whisky. I met Robert a few years ago when he visited Israel and he’s a nice guy, who obviously knows his way around whisky. I was quite intrigued when i got word of his new Blended malt, and was happy to give it a try.
At any one time, there are an estimated twenty million casks maturing across Scotland, all exposed to what is affectionately called ‘the Angels’ Share’, the evaporation from casks during maturation. The Angels take their pick; enjoying some casks more than others, whilst hard working distillers watch their efforts disappear. The Angels’ Nectar Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a re-creation of the Angels’ Share, bottled for whisky drinkers to savour. Carefully created from a selection of Speyside and Highland malt whiskies, Angels’ Nectar Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is unusually bottled at natural colour, has a sweet nose of apple and fruit syrup, a taste of heather honey and lemon, and a hint of spice on the finish. The Angels’ Nectar Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is vibrant and fresh, just the way the Angels’ like their dram.
Nose: Soft creamy and buttery , with Apple cider, butter and vanilla. Pear pie, cereal and sweet dough. Classic.
Palate: Feels a bit on the spicy side with a bit if an alcohol bite. Then it gets milder. Sweeter and fruitier. Apple and pears with creamy vanilla and cereal and a touch of lemon and heather honey.
Finish: spices dark chocolate and cocoa.
A very nice and easy going blended malt, nothing extreme, with a really nice textbook highland profile. A daily dram if there ever was one. It’s not grund breaking but it’s a nice dram.
