Quick dram: Overeem Take II- Sherry cask 60%

After I’ve enjoyed the sherry cask at 43% , it’s time to try the higher ABV version at 60%. I’m a big fan of Cask Strength whiskies, and rarely dilute with water at all , so 60% is no biggie, right? Let’s dram!

Old Hobart Overeem Sherry Cask Matured (Cask Strength), 60.0%,£188old-hobart-overeem-sherry-cask-matured-cask-strength-whisky

Nose: Stronger and spicier. Burnt maple syrup. Big sweet sherry influence. With dates. Sultanas and cooked apples with nuts. Pepper too. It’s whisky on steroids, but the good kind…

Palate: Wham. Big sherry impact ahead. Sweet with massive sherry influence. Plums. Pepper with a hint of crème de menthe and star anise, a total celebration on the palate. Good good stuff.

Finish: Long sweet and rewarding. Pepper. Plum and sultana.

Splendid stuff, if you like it thick sweet, peppery and full of flavour (without being off balance), this is your dram. As for pricing: Mamma Mia, this is not a cheap dram, at almost 200 quid it’s not the best VFM, but it does server as a brilliant gift idea for a whisky connoisseur that has everything and appreciates a good sherry dram from a very unique distillery.
