Longmorn 20 Year Old Burns Malt [The whisky barrel]

This wee sample from TWB arrived quite some time and waited patiently in the samples box (one of them). I felt like some Longmorn last night after successfully assembling an IKEA BESTÅ cabinet (anyone who ever assembled any IKEA furniture knows a dram or three are very much needed prior and after that tedious process), in fact I think IKEA should include a wee dram inside EVERY box of furniture, that would boost sales by 100’s of percent, and make the customers bitch less and swear even less. A thought for you dear IKEA CEO… (Peter Agnefjäll). And now to the dram at hand: This Longmorn was distilled on 25th May 1992, matured in hogshead cask number 71773 and bottled 20 years later on 13th February 2013 for The Whisky Barrel’s Burns Malt series.

Nose: Orange marmalade laid upon lovely sweet sherry. Dried fruit, ginger kirsch and spicy oak. Quite fragrant and punchy, with enough sherry influence.

Palate: Yikes!  Hot pepper and cinnamon bite over here,  Chilly powder, dried fruit and hints of chocolate and c

Finish: drying with a semi sweet semi bitter chocolate Ganache , and dried fruit.

Lovely stuff, a nice Sherried Longmorn with a good mouth feel, punchy and spicy with a lot of chilly and dried fruit goodness without being too sweet and too wine-y. Like.

Score: 87/100
