Kilchoman 5 Year Old 2008 – Single Cask (Master of Malt)

Can’t go wrong with a young peaty Kilchoman , can you? Well, you can’t really, but I’ve had some less interesting single cask Kilchoman (and one OB I own) which were not as good, I’ve also had a cracking 4 year old single cask Indie, so I was hoping this one was going to be a cracker, and it damn should be a cracker for that price. Let’s roll

Kilchoman 5 yo ,59.60% , 286 btl , £89kilchoman-5-year-old-2008-single-cask-master-of-malt-whisky

Nose: Youngish. New make. Banana. Cinnamon. Sweet peat. Ash. Wood smoke. Candy. Mint leather and peat reek.

Palate: Lots of sweet peat. Banana ice cream. Smoke. Fruity and sweet malty goodness. Quite creamy.

Finish : Smoke, Malt, pepper and barley sugars.

A very good single cask, no doubt. young, feisty and sweet with banana and smoke. Can’t really go wrong there, But, and there is a BUT. The price is somewhat high. I remember you could pick that 4 year old SCN for about 60 quid in the US, and that one was cracking too.  Good stuff. but a premium price. Kilchoman zealots, you will want to get this one!

Score: 88/100

Thanks to the chaps at Master of Malt for the sample.
