The “One” British Blend– Lakes Distillery

logoThe Lakes distillery is a very exciting new whisky distillery that is in the processes of building in one of the nicest places on earth (in the UK, that is, ok?), and it is going to be the first distillery built there for the last 100 years or so. I really wanted to visit the distillery location last August when I was in the Lakes District with the family, but schedule issues with both me and Paul who was very nice and inviting, made it quite impossible at the time.  Anyways, the distillery is not running yet but is scheduled to start distilling this spring (2014), It shall first release a Gin, and open its gates for visitors in the visitor centre, as well as a shop, a restaurant and bar. Sounds like a wonderful place to visit next time you’re there.

the-1

They have not really distilled anything yet, but have created their first prodcut already, in the form of a Blended whisky, A British whisky that is. What does that really mean? Essentially that the whiskies used are all distilled in the British Isles , not sure what really goes into that but there are some hints you can use to figure that out if you’re really into that…

The bottle looks lovely too, but let’s see what’s inside…

The One Blended whisky, 40% , £29.95

Nose: very sweet and candy like. Round. Gentle. Cotton candy. Cereal. Heather honey. I like it very much. Yep

Palate : sweet and spicy. Vanilla custard sprinkled with chillies. Golden syrup. A bit of milk chocolate mousse. A hint of coriander and a little bit of young grain.

Finish: grape. Chocolate. Chilly.

Very nice. Well rounded sweet and spicy. A very enjoyable little blend, and not very expensive too. Lovely. Hopefully we’ll be able to taste their Malt whisky in a few year’s time and see how that is. Exciting times.

Score: 84/100
