Glen Garioch vintage 1999 / Sherry Cask

Glen Garioch seem to be busy releasing new expression recently  : After the lovely virgin Oak (which was NAS) comes this 199 vintage Sherry cask which is not very common for GG’s. The whisky was aged in Oloroso sherry casks distilled in 1999 is non-chill filtered. Released in “limited” quantities (1000 cases) and bottled at a lovely ABV of 56.3%.

Nose: Lots of wine influence. Quince jam. Oranges and spice with a bit of rubber. Rich with toffee and hints of ginger, and some sulphur too (be warned Mr Murray!)

Palate: Oily, and mouth coating , with a spicy entry on ginger and pepper, then getting sweeter and winy-er with toffee and then some dried fruit (fig, date) , a few earth notes as well, and maybe a wee saltiness comes on the middle-finish.

Finish: Ripe orange, date and fig, and some toffee.

A lovely whisky, with a better palate than the nose, and in my opinion better priced than the Virgin Oak. It’s sold out on some stores, so be quick if you wish to get one. I know it’s on my wish list , yep.

Score: 85/100
