Wemyss Malts Salted Caramels – Glen Scotia 1991

Campbeltown whiskies are quite rare, as there are only 3 distilleries operating (if you count GlenGyle as one). Glen Scotia is rarely seen in OB, and I’ve had quite a few nice Indies distilled there which I really enjoyed (this Kintra for example). The latest batch from Wemyss consists of 6 single casks, and three will be reviewed on the blog shortly, and guess which one I’ve chosen to start with, well yea…  As always Wemyss bottle casks at around 46% abv, and not at CS (in order to reduce prices, and increase volume so I am told), and this one is no exception.Salted-Caramels (1)

Nose: We’re in a confectionary shop near the ocean. Lovely wee smoke on top of caramel heaven. With caramel  sweets sprinkled with sea salt breeze .

Palate: Brine and sweet caramelized wood then getting fruitier with papaya , hints of guava and grapefruit with caramel candy and light aromatic wood.

Finish : salty with a sweet spot.

Lovely salt and fruit interplay, and what a nice sea breeze. Very special stuff. Love it.

Score: 88/100
