Glentauchers 30 yo Artist Series for LMDW

This is another one from Shai’s sample bomb. After the lovely Wigle wheat whiskey, time for an older Speysider. Glentauchers is owned by Pernod Ricard, and does not really bottle any of its malt as OBs, and you can find quite a few IBs. I don’t think I’ve tasted one until today, so another distillery off the “Need to taste” list. yippee.

I always have great expectations from 30 year old Cask strength , single cask bottles, since I love the palate and nose of old wood , but they better not  be too woody…

Glentauchers 30YO Artist Series for LMDW , 58.5% (Signatory) GT-30

Nose: Oh. That’s a nice one!  Thick and sweet with lots of super tasty wood some  Varnish. as well with some Candied citrus fruits: Orange, Lemon.A bit floral too and quite sweet with a wine effect too : sweet yet not cloying. Getting waxy with time.

Palate: Spicy and dry. Oodles of wood in there. But spiced and cracking delicious. Lots of pepper. Wrinkle of cinnamon. Cloves. Espresso. Earth.  A bit too much wood in my opinion, lots of wood bark, which mellows down with some water.

Finish: Bitter. Dark chocolate. Double espresso. Wood. Wine.

Not a bad dram at all, the nose is wonderful, and the palate rich , spicy and thick with enough wood. If only it were less woody, and bitter, it could have been perfect.

Score: 87/100

Cheers Shai.
