Chivas Regal 18 yo

chiv_log_smal

From time to time I get emails or comments from people asking why I am reviewing mostly “limited editions” or other special editions of malts, and not more widely available blends or malts. The truth is that I try to reviews those too (and have done so quite a few times), but there is always room for more. I am going to be visiting a few well known blends in the coming weeks, starting today with the 18 year old Chivas Regal, followed by the 12 year old,and maybe a few others. So there you go dear readers, hope you find my notes useful. Chivas 12 is very common in Israel (and highly regarded as a premium blend for some reason i am not sure of), while the 18 is not as common over here.

Chivas Regal 18 Year Old , 40%, ~£51 chiv18

Nose: Starts very pleasant nose with nice maltiness spices( pepper, cinnamon) apples and pears porridge. Very nice all in all. Distant sultanas and candied cherries, also echo.

Palate: Pleasant and delicate. Fruity on entry with the apple malt and pear holy trinity as well as a bit of pepper and bitter chocolate. Very round , and balanced.

Finish: Dry. Wood and cocoa. Hints of fruit.

This is a very good blend no doubt, round, balanced, very enjoyable and easy on the palate, with enough spice/malt/sugar to please any palate. While there are a lot of other good blends , this makes a great buy as a present for people who appreciate a good whisky and appreciate the well known Chivas brand.

Score: 83/100

Available for £51 at Master of Malt

  1. This is certainly not a bad blend. I just think it’s a bit expensive for what it offers!
