Master of Malt Deanston 19 yo single cask

Deanston. Not a distillery I am very familiar with, but I have had a few drams here and there, and quite liked their “virgin oak” expression whish is well priced even here in Israel. I did not quite what to expect by this single cask, but man, was I in for a real treat.

This beauty was distilled at the Deanston distillery on the 16th December 1992. It then spent 19 full years in a single refill hogshead before MOM bottled it on the 20th November 2012. 260 bottles all in all.

Deanston 19 Year Old – Single Cask (Master of Malt) , 53.4% , £59.95deanston-19-year-old-single-cask-master-of-malt-whisky

Nose: A bit of pepper, and a rather semi-sweet chocolate loveliness with some hints of polished wood and a dash of mint.

Palate: Oh, this is a thing of beauty. a tremendously good avalanche of flavours, Magnificent oak, with elegant spices, touching on milk chocolate, cocoa, and nuts. Vanilla too, the oak and spices are so well integrated it’s just splendid. This hit my sweet spot. and damn, it made me smile. wow.

Finish: Fruity and chocolaty with those lovely spices, and oak.

Conclusion:

This is some fine cask we have here. It has got a nice nose, but the palate is absolutely cracking. Loved every bit of it, and although Master of Malt do bottle gems from time to time, this is by far one of the best single casks I’ve had this year, and definitely the best Deanston i have EVER tasted. Fine stuff. very fine. At 60 quid this shot high into my “wanted” list.Do yourself a favour and get a bottle, samples are also available for £4.80 each,  if you’re short on pennies, just taste this. It’s bound to make you smile.

Score: 90/100
