Caperdonich 17 Year Old (Abbey Whisky)

My First ever Abbey Whisky review, and very happy to add another Indie bottler. Always makes me happy to get a wee sample i never tried (cheers guys!) , and this one was no exception, with the growing crowd of Caperdonich whisky lovers, We see more and more Indie bottlings from this lost distillery. Some of which were lovely and reviewed here in the past. how will this one fare? let’s see.

Caperdonich 17 Year Old, 57.8% , 1995 , 17 yo , 96 btl ,£59 Abbey_caper17

Nose: Starting very fruity and beguiling with notes of exotic fruit salad : pineapple, papaya , Lychee in sweet sugary nectar , Vanilla pods. A touch of Granny Smith apple peel, Muscovado sugar, wood spice and leather.

Palate: Quite spicy on the entry , think : Chilly. Sweet but fierce. Dying to reveal vanilla and caramel biscuit (You know those Eden biscuits with lots of caramel) , and a nice malty backbone.

Finish : Drying. Bitter sweet with wood and truffles sprinkled with cocoa powder.

A very nice dram, very appropriate for this festive wintery season. Very limited (96 bottled), and well priced if you ask me (under 60 quid for single cask , at cast strength?) it’s a real steal, and a nice touch to try the wonders of Caperdonich.

Score : 87/100

Happy holidays!
