Quick Dram: SMWS 23.71 ‘A cheese Baord in surgery’–Bruichladdich

Another one from Sjoerd’s SMWS bottle share, this time a 9 year old Ladie bottled at a whopping 65.9%, not for those who appreciate delicate malts, eh?

Nose: Signature Laddie no doubt here. Baby vomit, peat and powerful mix of herbal and fruity notes with medicinal qualities such as ER or surgery room. A certain sift cheese aroma. Maybe sweeter ricotta.

Palate: much sharper than the nose would indicate. Pepper , sugar, coconut, fruit (peach apple) , peat smoke. Vanilla and wood, sprinkled with salt.

Finish: bitter wood and sweet sugary fruit. And briny earthy stuff.

So how is it?

Not bad. Quite unique. A very interesting profile. I liked it quite a bit, as I do with younger peated laddies, Medicinal, herbal and sugary with that faint cheesy smell. not the pinnacle of creation, but a lovely try.

Score: 86/100
