Tasting Two Milroy’s of Soho single casks

Milroys-of-Soho-3A few weeks ago, I received a few samples from Milroy’s Of Soho which is a leading whisky and wine  shop in London, and also a private bottler. I remember visiting them a couple of times in the past, and also tasting some delicious Amrut whisky they had on sale back then, and was very  happy to be able to try some of their offering. I decided to go with those two for starters, unusual single casks bottled at 46% rather than at cask strength, but offering good price / quality ratios.

milroys-jubilee

Milroy’s Royal Lochnagar 2002, Aged 10 Years, Jubilee Bottling , £35

Nose: Fresh, with some dough and lemony notes, vanilla and apple peel, lemon grass and fresh cut grass too.

Palate: a bit of pepper up front, then malty vanilla and wood, with some hints of apple, and getting dry and bitter towards the end.

Finish : bitter, with oak, burnt sugar and lost memories of baked apple.

Score: 84/100

milroys

46% ABV, Longmorn 1999, Aged 13 Years, Sports Day Bottling £35

Nose : autumn leaves, wet hay, and some wee smoke , damp wood vanilla and spice.

Palate: Tobacco leaves, wood, some smoke, pepper. spice and ginger, with a malty semi sweet center

Finish: wee smoke, leafy.

Score: 85/100

Two very enjoyable single casks, and again all I’m asking : next time bottle them at CS, I know the price sill not be 35 quid, but I am sure people are willing to pay a bit more and get more. Watch this space for a few more Milroy’s exclusive bottlings, including a lovely Calvados in the coming weeks.

Slainte!
