Tasting Elijah Craig 18 Single Barrel

Time to taste some of the samples I’ve got from my good friend Josh (@cooperedtot). I’ve tasted the EC 12 before and liked it a lot, this one sadly is not available anymore, and discontinued due to lack of older stock so I am told. It’s an 18 year old single barrel Bourbon named after the Reverend Elijah Craig, who discovered the benefits of ageing bourbon in charred barrels. The barrels are hand selected by Master Distiller Parker Beam

Elijah Craig Single Barrel 18 Year Old, 45% ABV, Barrel 3866elijah-craig-single-barrel-18-year-old-whisky

Nose: Wood varnish , vanilla, maple , orange peel candy , balsamic, coffee. Wood. Pencil box.

Palate:  Spicy peppery entry. Mega vanilla and lots of wood insides of a cask. It’s just like licking it. Espresso and a certain fruitiness.  Maybe bitter sweet  cherries

Finish: Wood. Sugar and maple.

Beautiful stuff all in all. I like this one very much. Too bad it’s discontinued.

Score: 88/100

Many thanks to Josh F. for this lovely sample. Cheers Ninja!

  1. I very much agree. I had a bottle of this before I started to join the scoring club, but from my memory I’d place it in the same region. Some think it’s over the top, but I loved it.

    1. Yes Oliver, very much so.
too bad this was a wee sample, and not a full bottle. a very good one. I heard some people who say the 12 is better, but IMHO this is the ace. have have you tried the 21 year old?
