Mortlach SMWS, 76.83 ‘Cocktails after Rugby’ 15 yo vintage 1995

Another one of the SMWS bottle share by the good old Sjoerd from NL. Time to go through that bunch, methinks. And today : A Mortlach! Ah, I do love those meaty Mortlachs, and was hoping this one will be one of them. But, not this time. This was a very different story altogether.

Tasting Perfection : Glenfarclas Norse Cask 1964 “Rechlerich”

Some distilleries make consistent wonderful drams and the family owned Glenfarclas is one of them. It’s a favorite of mine as you well know, and making older expressions of perfect sherried malts is what they excel at. Seldom do you find a bad OB ‘Farclas. IB Glenfarclas is not common, and they are never bottled under the Glenfarclas name as …

Tasting Elijah Craig 18 Single Barrel

Time to taste some of the samples I’ve got from my good friend Josh (@cooperedtot). I’ve tasted the EC 12 before and liked it a lot, this one sadly is not available anymore, and discontinued due to lack of older stock so I am told. It’s an 18 year old single barrel Bourbon named after the Reverend Elijah Craig, who …

Blended Malts Evening at Whisky Israel tasting Society

A few months ago when it was much cooler, and one could drink whisky without the need of A/C 24 hours a day, The whisky Israel tasting society convened for an evening of Bring your own whiskies. The Theme was Blended Malts (Or Vatted Malts like we used to call them before the SWA messed things up). Each brought a …

Tasting Arran’s latest release : The Devil’s Punch Bowl

When I heard about this one a few weeks ago, I was very keen to know more. What an unusual name (good work PR guys!). But when I saw the amazing box and the bottle and heard what’s inside, I knew I HAD to try this one sooner or later (sooner is better). If this is the first time you’ve …

A new Ardbeg? – Galileo?
This is not quite official yet, but more and more pics and rumors are showing up online, Facebook , twitter. Even the Master of Malt Blog has written a post about it two days ago. So, there must be something in it. Not a lot is know, other that it’s supposed to be a 1999 vintage, …

Tasting the new Balblair 2002 edition

As I’ve mentioned in the last post about the 1975 vintage Balblair, another new vintage will be released shortly by the guys from Edderton: a much younger 2002 edition. Again, this one will be bottled at 46% ABV , NCV, and no colouring added. As opposed to the 1975, this liquid was aged in 100% Ex-Bourbon casks.  Pricing has not …

Tasting the new Balblair 1975 vintage (batch 2)

Last week Balblair distillery has released a 2nd batch of their 1975 vintage. The new expression has been matured in American Ex-Sherry casks (rather than European ex-Sherry casks of batch #1 ) and is bottled at 46% , NCF, and no additional colouring added. A press event was held and UK whisky bloggers and press were invited to the distillery …

Tasting The Benriach “Horizons” 12 yo triple distilled

Today’s dram is the Benriach Horizons 12. What’s so unique about it is that it’s distilled three times as opposed to most single malts which are distilled twice (or 2.5 times like in Springbank). Will be interesting to see how the third distillation affects the liquid. One thing I do like about this one and many young Benriachs is that …
