Reviewing Compass Box on Whisky*Israel

Compass box is a leading ‘Artisanal’ whisky company, or ‘Independent bottler’ as we call them. It is in existence only 10 years, but it is far from obscure, and has generated quite some noise (mostly positive) in the very traditional whisky pond. As an Artisan whisky company, its products are generally are a vatting or blending of single malts, and …

Tasting the Glenfarclas 40 years old

Many distilleries pack their older 40 year old whiskies in Grand wooden boxes that cost a fortune, price their older whiskies so high that only collectors (or evil counterparts who drive the prices up and up and up) can afford, and treat them as some sort of museum exhibit. Happily Glenfarclas thinks that whiskies are to be drunk, and enjoyed …

Quick Dram : Lagavulin ‘Distillery Only’ 2010 CS

Lagavulin. One of my favourite Islay distilleries, has only a few expressions available (12CS , 16 , 16 DE to name the most common), and every new expression released is a reason to celebrate. I love the 16 year old and think of it as one of the cornerstones of every whisky lover’s bar. The 16 year old DE is …

Quick Dram : Laphroaig Triple Wood

The Laphraoig Triple Wood was the whisky equivalent of the Moby Dick for me and a good whisky friend of mine (Igal). A few months ago all FOL received an email from Laphraoig’s John Campbell announcing that the triple wood will be sold to FOL’s over the internet in limited quantities. What could be better? A 1 litre bottle previously …

Tasting Ardbeg Supernova 2010 Release

It’s week #3 of August and It’s Ardbeg Month. Time for tasting the Supernova 2010 Release, I’ve been waiting a long time to sample.
The Peat wars continue, and this time with Ardbeg’s peated beast – 2010 version. Peated to over 100 ppm (a bit lower than the Octomore 2.2 released this year ) It’s Ardbeg’s most violent, and peaty of …

Most of you know me as a whisky freak, Peat head and sherry fanatic, but in order to support this addiction to amazingly good whiskies, one needs to keep a day job.
When not drinking / sampling / writing tasting notes / dreaming whisky i happen to work for Mediamind as  a software development team lead. I’ve been there for …
